Mota-Engil Contracts in Uganda
Mota-Engil, the renowned Portuguese engineering and construction firm, has been making significant strides in its expansion into the African continent in recent years. One of the countries where the company has been particularly active is Uganda, where it has secured several multi-million-dollar construction contracts.
Mota-Engil entered the Ugandan market in 2010, when it won a $200 million contract to construct a new airport in the town of Kabaale, in the country`s oil-rich western region. The airport, which is due to be completed in 2022, will serve as a key transportation hub for the burgeoning oil and gas industry in the region.
Since then, Mota-Engil has secured several other contracts in Uganda, including a $35 million deal to build a new bridge over the River Nile at Jinja, which is one of the country`s busiest traffic corridors. The project, which is being funded by the Japanese government, is expected to significantly improve transportation and trade links between Uganda and its neighbors.
Another major contract that Mota-Engil has won in Uganda is the $570 million Kampala-Jinja Expressway, which will be the first toll road in the country. The project, which is being financed by China`s Exim Bank, will be a key artery for transportation and trade in the country, linking the capital city of Kampala with the eastern town of Jinja.
Mota-Engil has also been involved in a number of other projects in Uganda, including the construction of a new water treatment plant in Kampala and the renovation and expansion of the Entebbe International Airport.
In addition to its construction activities, Mota-Engil has also been active in the Ugandan energy sector, where it has secured several contracts for the construction of new hydroelectric power plants. These projects are part of Uganda`s broader efforts to increase its electricity generation capacity, which is seen as vital for driving economic growth and development in the country.
Overall, Mota-Engil`s presence in Uganda has had a significant impact on the country`s infrastructure and economy. Its projects have created thousands of jobs and helped to boost trade and transportation links, while also contributing to the development of the country`s energy sector. With its proven track record of successful project delivery and commitment to sustainability and community engagement, Mota-Engil is well-positioned to continue making a positive impact in Uganda and beyond.
